Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels due to defects in insulin secretion or function. This Community Service Program aims to improve the understanding of community health workers and families of geriatric patients suffering from Diabetes Mellitus (DM) about the importance of a healthy lifestyle in managing the disease. With an approach based on healthy eating, stress management, and regular physical activity, the program targets the prevention of early complications of DM. Elderly people with diabetes are at high risk of complications such as heart disease, stroke, and functional impairments. Therefore, involving families in supporting patients' lifestyle changes is essential. This program includes counseling on blood sugar monitoring, meal planning, pharmacological interventions, and appropriate physical exercises for older adults. The results show that through education and training, families and health cadres can help patients better manage their diabetes, improve their quality of life, and prevent further complications. This program is expected to be expanded to significantly impact the prevention and management of diabetes in the community.
