Indah Noor Wahyuni, Nashwa Zahrania Zaeni, Ruth Natalia Susanti

Abstract

This study aims to assess how effective light exercise is on a daily basis as a non-medical method of reducing mild anxiety in young adults (ages 18 to 40). The method used is a quantitative approach with a single group pretest-posttest design. Four participants were selected by purposive sampling and participated in the light exercise program for five minutes each day for one week. The instrument used consists of a Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) and one reflective question each day. Research findings showed an increase in positive affect scores and a decrease in negative affect, although only one participant showed significant results. Other participants continued to show increased awareness of the importance of physical activity to manage stress and anxiety. This study strengthened previous findings that daily light exercise can be a simple, effective, and affordable choice of psychological therapy. It is recommended that this program be continued and supported by a professional approach for better results.
