Abstract

This study provides benefits for pencak silat athletes from the Indonesian Silat Association (HIMSSI) Seri Bandung Commissariat, in increasing the speed of pencak silat sickle kicks using the plyometric training method. The sickle kick is a type of self-defense technique, an attack in pencak silat that requires speed techniques, and good muscle coordination, especially in injured muscles. Plyometric training is a training method designed to increase muscle strength and explosive power through explosive movements. This study uses an experimental method with a Pretest and Posttest one group design. The research sample itself consisted of pencak silat athletes who were selected purposively based on certain criteria. The plyometric training program was carried out for 6 weeks with a frequency of 3 times per week. The instrument used in this study was a sickle kick speed test measured using a stopwatch with a time of 10 seconds, how many times the athlete could kick in that time. The results showed a significant increase in the speed of the sickle kick after the plyometric training program was carried out. This increase shows that plyometric training is able to stimulate the muscles optimally so that it can improve kick performance. Thus, plyometric training can be used as an alternative in a program to increase the speed of the sickle kick. This finding is expected to be a reference for coaches in compiling a more effective and measurable training program.
