Abstract

ABSTRACT

The characteristics of the cervical cancer injuries are pain, odor, bleeding, many exudates, itching, and infection in the wound. The presence of malodor can disturb health professionals when they are caring for patients with cervical cancer wounds. This situation may cause discomfort leads to unconsciousness among those practitioners. This study aimed to describe the odor level based on health practitioners’ perspectives when they treated cervical cancer wounds. This research used descriptive quantitative research methods. Sampling was conducted using total sample that recruited 41 respondents. The instrument used an odor scale from Sucker (2007) which ranged from 0-6 as perceived by health workers that nurses and midwives. Data was analysed using a single descriptive statistics with frequency distribution. Findings demonsrated that more than half respondents have chosen scale 4 with strong odor (51.22%). Half of them chose scale 5 with very strong odor (29.27%), a fraction opt scale 3 with distinct odor (17.07%), and a small pick scale 2 with weak odor (2.44%), and none of the respondents who chose a very weak odor scale and extremely odor. The odor level was largely classified on scale 4 with strong odor. Based on the results of odor level was variation in cervical cancer patients for their necrotic the external genitalia or internal area that was different. Suggestions of research is health workers can do the management of odor by cleaning the wound area affected by cancer and manage the environment around the patient.
