Abstract

Red ginger (Zingiber Officinale Var. Rubrum) is commonly used in Asia as traditional medicine and research results have reported evidence that red ginger contains a high phenolic compound in which phenolic compound is widely associated with antioxidant activity. Alas, research scientifically tested red ginger feasibility to be an antioxidant agent is still limited. In this paper, we reported red ginger rhizome extract's ability in preventing hemolysis and inhibit oxidant.  Both antihemolysis and antioxidant testing showed that red ginger has excellent ability in preventing blood hemolysis and inhibits reactive oxygen species.  Correlation between phenolic compounds and antihemolysis or antioxidant ability is discussed.
