Alat Ukur Kecerdasan Emosional Mahasiswa Berbasis Teori Goleman: Bukti Validitas Dan Reliabilitas

Abstract


The high academic pressure faced by Indonesian university students can trigger various emotional problems and risk of hurting yourself, yet contextually relevant emotional intelligence measurements with strong psychometric properties remain limited. This study aims to develop an emotional intelligence scale based on Goleman's theory (1995), which encompasses five aspects: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivating oneself, empathy, and handling relationships. This research employed a quantitative approach with an instrument development design involving 205 undergraduate students in Bandung, selected through purposive sampling. The initial instrument consisted of 66 items, which underwent psychometric analysis including content validity testing through expert judgment, corrected item-total correlation analysis, and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to yield 21 final items. The results indicate that the instrument possesses high reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.824, all items obtained Aiken's V values above 0.800, and the measurement model demonstrated good fit with the empirical data, as indicated by CFI value of 0.902, RMSEA of 0.046, and SRMR of 0.076. This study successfully produced an emotional intelligence measurement tool that meets good psychometric standards and can be reliably used for both research and practical purposes in higher education, and is expected to support efforts to improve the emotional well-being of university students in Indonesia.
