DESIGNING A SPORTS CENTER IN PANGANDARAN OF EAST JAVA PROVINCE USING A RECREATIONAL ARCHITECTURAL APPROACH

Abstract

Pangandaran is a new regency in West Java, separated from Ciamis Regency through a stipulation in the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 21 of 2012. As the newest region in West Java, Pangandaran Regency lacks public service facilities, one of which is a sports center. The aim of designing a sports center in Pangandaran Regency, West Java, is to provide a place to meet the community’s needs for recreational sports facilities and infrastructure. Data were collected through literature studies and field surveys, consisting of location, topography, natural conditions, climate, socioeconomic, and others. The data were then analyzed using a recreational architecture. The concept of recreational architecture is chosen in this design because its concept is in harmony with the location, which is a tourist area. Six principles of the recreational concept are used in the design, including natural elements, human activity, informality, exploration, dynamism, and light elements. This concept aims to create a psychologically comfortable building atmosphere, generate creative ideas, and reduce fatigue for its users. It is hoped that the application of recreational architecture in a sports center building in Pangandaran Regency be able to attract public interest in sports to increase health quality for the people of Pangandaran in particular and people throughout Indonesia in general.
