PENERAPAN STRATEGI SQ3R UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MEMBACA PEMAHAMAN SISWA KELAS IV SD

Abstract


Abstract: The background in this research is low comprehension reading skill in fourth grade students of primary school. Focus on this research especially on application SQ3R strategy to improve reading comprehension skills in fourth grade students of primary school. This study aims to find out how the planning, implementation, and improvement of reading comprehension skills in students by applying the SQ3R strategy. The research used Classroom Action Research (PTK) method by adopting from Kemmis and Taggart model which implemented in 2 cycles. The subjects in this research are the fourth grade students in one of  Primary School in Bandung, 2017/2018 academic year, amounting to 24 students consisting of 12 men and 12 women. The research was conducted based on SQ3R strategy stages: survey, question, read, recite, review. There are indicators of reading comprehension in this research is to determine the main idea, write the question, summarize the contents of the text, and retell the contents of the text with their own language. The results of research data showed improvement by applying SQ3R strategy on learning process. The average value of the results obtained in cycle I 73.04 and increased in cycle II of 80.79. While the improvement of learning completeness in cycle I are 58% and increased in cycle II that is equal to 87%. Based on the results of the improvement, the implementation of SQ3R strategy in learning process, can improve reading comprehension skill in fourth grade students of primary school.
