Abstract

This classroom action research began when researchers carried out observations in one of the elementary schools in Bandung. The problem found was the low ability of students to work together during learning in the form of group discussions. This is indicated by communication between students is still less visible, selfishness between individuals, group members are not heterogeneous and most students lack confidence in opinions between group members. This happens because teacher-centered learning, group division does not pay attention to the heterogeneity of students, so that the cooperative ability of students does not appear during group discussions. To overcome this problem, one of the learning models that can improve the ability of cooperation is the STAD type cooperative learning model. This classroom action research aims to describe the application of STAD type cooperative learning to improve the ability to work in elementary school fourth grade students. This classroom action research subject is a fourth grade student in one of the elementary schools in Bandung with 27 students. This research was carried out with the class action research model according to Kemmis and MC Taggart which consisted of four stages namely 1) planning, 2) implementation, 3) observation, 4) reflection. The results showed that the application of STAD type cooperative learning succeeded in increasing the average ability of students to work in cycles I and II. This can be seen in the development of students' cooperative ability at the first cycle of 74% and the second cycle increased to 90%. So that it can be concluded that the application of STAD type cooperative learning can improve the ability to cooperate with fourth grade students in elementary school.
