This research is based on the low understanding of students’ mathematical concepts. The reason is that students learn by tending to only rely on formulas or ways that are informed directly by the teacher, students are only asked to memorize the material that has been delivered by the teacher, and there is no proof of the student’s work. The purpose of the study is to describe the process implementation of learning mathematics lesson content and increased understanding of mathematical concepts of fifth grade elementary school students after applied the Guided Discovery Learning (GDL) model. Participants in this study are 27 students of VB class. The research method used in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR) by applying Stephen Kemmis and Robbin McTaggart model which is implemented in two cycles. The result of the study shows the fact of improvement in learning in each cycle through the application of the GDL model. Based on the result of the study it can be concluded that the application of GDL model can increase the conceptual understanding of mathematic for fifth grader elementary school.
