KEMAMPUAN PEMECAHAN MASALAH SISWA DALAM MENYELESAIKAN SOAL NON RUTIN PADA MATERI LUAS BANGUN DATAR PERSEGI PANJANG

Abstract


This research aims to describe students’ problem-solving skills in answering non-routine questions in the HOTs question category, which shove off from the students' difficulty issue in solving non-routine questions in the HOTs question category. This research used a descriptive-qualitative method. The research uses tests, interviews, and observations. The results of research are (1) The students with a high level of basic mathematical skill can solve three questions by making a mathematical model with their intuition through Polya's problem-solving stages; the students with a moderate level of basic mathematical skill can only solve one questions by using mathematical formulas which are understood through Polya's problem-solving stages; the students with a low level of basic mathematical skill are not able to solve any of three questions because they are still difficult in connecting information contained to stepped in Polya’s problemsolving stages. (2) The different skill of mathematical problem solving can be seen from their cognitive development, which are the students with a high level of basic mathematical skills appropriate with the concrete operational stage. Students with a moderate and low level of basic mathematical skills still reach the preoperational stage of cognitive development
