The Role of Empowerment in Servant Leadership:A Comparative Study in Educational Setting

Abstract


This research specifically discusses the role of empowerment as an indicator of servant leadership and its' implementation in the education management which includes the work environment and the teachers' job satisfaction in two schools. The purpose of this study is to analyze the similarities and differences of the implementation of the servant leadership in the schools and the perception of the teachers' job satisfaction influenced by the principal's managerial skills especially related to their empowerment function. The research method of this research is qualitative. The results showed that the teachers perceived job satisfactions areinfluenced by the principal's managerial role, especially the role in empowering teachers to continue to develop. The similarity between these two schools is the role of the principal who continues to encourage teachers to improve their career paths, which is included in the empowerment indicator. The differences that exist are how the principal's influence in creating a conducive work environment and the differences in perceptions of job satisfaction by different teachers which are apparently influenced by the extraversion character of the principal and the principal's business or time availability in nurturing the teachers
