Abstract

As a productive skill, writing is often considered difficult by many students, especially by those with limited vocabulary and of grammar knowledge. Proper technique is needed to cope these problems. This Paper is intended to present the result of a research on one of the techniques developed as an alternative to develop better writing skills, i.e. the effect of Think-Talk-Write (TTW) technique in teaching writing descriptive text. This research used an experimental design in which it employed two group pre-test and post-test design: experimental group and control group, each of whom consists of 28 students. The sampling technique of this research was population sampling (all population involved as sample). The data was collected through pre-test, treatments, and post-test. Experimental group was taught using TTW technique, while the control group using Presentation-Practice-Production (PPP) technique. The finding shows that t-test value was higher than t-table 2.777 > 2.009 at significance level of .05 in degree of freedom (df) 54. It means that the Null Hypothesis (Ho) stated “There is no significant effect of using TTW technique on students’ writing descriptive text ability” was rejected. It can be concluded that TTW technique gave significant effect on students’ writing descriptive text ability.
