The village of Morton, famous for its pumpkin production and yearly Pumpkin Festival, is located in Tazewell County in the state of Illinois. It is 127 miles southwest of Chicago and just 8 miles southeast of Peoria. The first Morton settlers arrived from England, New York, and Ohio between 1830 and 1835. The village was named after Massachusetts Governor Morton. The village had not only fertile agricultural land but also numerous industries in its early period which helped in its fast growth and development. Today, the village has a total population of around 17,500, and is a part of the Peoria-Pekin metropolitan area.
