Enhancing Human Evolution Literacy through PraksaraVerse: A Gamified Science Learning Innovation Supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Abstract
This study developed and evaluated PraksaraVerse, a gamified interactive learning application designed to enhance students’ literacy in human evolution as part of science education. Using the Luther Research and Development model, the application was designed to incorporate multimedia content, 3D simulations, quizzes, and augmented reality, fostering immersive and contextual learning. A quasi-experimental design was applied to 205 eleventh-grade students from three high schools in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data were collected using validated comprehension tests and perception questionnaires. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in the Beta group, which used the refined version of the application. Students reported high engagement, improved understanding, and positive user experience. The integration of scientific content, technological features, and visual narratives aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education through digital innovation. PraksaraVerse demonstrates the potential of educational technology to address abstract scientific concepts while fostering active learning in secondary education.
