The Level of Professionalism Development of MARA College's Teacher

Abstract


The aims of this study are to evaluate the level of professionalism development of MARA College’s teachers and to explore the hindrances to the MARA College’s teachers in their attempt to improve their professionalism. This study applied a mixed methods research design involving the quantitative and qualitative data collection of the samples’ perceptions using a closed-ended questionnaires, open-ended survey and face-to-face structured interviews. A total of 169 teachers from four MARA colleges volunteered as the closed-ended questionnaire respondents while 37 teachers were selected as open-ended survey participants together with 8 teachers for the face-to-face structured interview sessions. The result indicated that the teacher’s professional development at MARA Colleges is at a moderate level due to some issues that hinder their professional development. The issues are the challenges in conducting the action research activities to enhance teaching practices and the barriers in creating a knowledge-sharing sessions and negative perceptions on reflection and supervision activities.
