Ideologi Patriarki pada Novel ‘82nyeonsaeng Kim Ji-Yeong’ dan Terjemahannya (Analisis Wacana Kritis) - Patriarchal Ideology in the Novel ‘82nyeonsaeng Kim Ji-Yeong’ and Its Indonesian Translation (Critical Discourse Analysis)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Considered as a process of conveying a message from the source language to the target language, translation plays an important role in conveying ideology and messages from the source text to the target text. This paper examines a potential shift of attitudinal meaning of the patriarchal representation in the Korean novel ‘82nyeon-saeng Kim Ji-Yeong’ and its Indonesian translation. This is done by focusing on the change of appraising items in both the source and target texts, highlighting the potential ideological construction transference. This paper used a discourse analytical approach, specifically Martin and White’s (2003) attitude and graduation of the appraisal framework. It assists in revealing the construction of patriarchal ideology in the source and target texts. The result indicates several findings. Both of the target and source texts share similar attitudinal patriarchal construction; however, the texts differ slightly in the degree of intensity. It is suggested that, despite a slight change of the patriarchal construction, attention to attitudinal meaning should be part of the translator’s repertoire, particularly in translating literary works. Keywords
