Abstract

This study aims to analyze the correlation of maximum lower body muscle strength to the sprint performance of rugby athletes, which is measured using the maximum back squat load test and 30-meter sprint performance. The method used in this study is quantitative correlational to see the relationship between research variables. The study population was 24 West Java rugby athletes selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman correlation test to see the relationship between maximum strength and sprint performance, the results of the study showed a positive relationship between maximum strength and sprint performance, the findings in this study confirm the importance of strength training in increasing speed. The conclusion of the study explains that developing lower body muscle strength is an important factor in improving athletic performance, especially in sports that require speed and power such as rugby 7s.
