Syifa Ananda Mefiana, Tatang Herman

Abstract

The way of thinking or WoT is a characteristic of a mental action performed by a person while the way of understanding or WoU is a collection or structures consisting of certain axioms, definitions, theorems, proofs, problems and solutions. The purpose of this research is to analyze the characteristics of the students' Ways of Thinking and Ways of Understanding in solving integer and fraction problems. The research method used is descriptive descriptive research. The subjects of this study were class VII junior high school students who had studied the material for operations on integer and fractional arithmetic. The results of the research show that the characteristics of students' WoT and WoU in solving problems related to integers and fractions are interconnected. An incorrect or incomplete way of understanding a concept results in an illogical or wrong way of thinking. Conversely, a good understanding of integers and fractions results in the completion of a systematic, logical, and effective way of thinking.
