Effect of Group Investigation Learning on Students’ Concept Understanding in Economic Growth A Study at SMA Negeri 1 Padalarang.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low level of students’ conceptual understanding, as identified through pre-research conducted in Class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Padalarang. The study aimed to investigate the effect of the cooperative learning model using the group investigation technique on students' conceptual understanding. The research subjects included class XI-12 as the experimental class and class XI-10 as the control class. A quasi-experimental method was employed with a non-equivalent control group design. The research instrument consisted of objective test questions to measure conceptual understanding. Data analysis used parametric statistical techniques, including normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing through paired sample and independent sample tests. The research findings revealed two main results: (1) there was a significant difference in students' conceptual understanding in the experimental class before and after the treatment; and (2) there was a significant difference in conceptual understanding between the experimental class, which applied the cooperative learning model with group investigation, and the control class, which used the lecture method. The improvement in conceptual understanding was greater in the experimental class, with an N-Gain score of 0.31 categorized as medium, compared to the control class with an N-Gain of 0.14, categorized as low. This indicates the effectiveness of the group investigation technique.
