Digital Financial Literacy and Self-Control in Student Financial Management
Abstract
Synthesizing the Theory of Planned Behavior and Dual-Process Theory, this study examines how digital financial literacy (DFL) and a consumptive lifestyle (CL) affect personal financial management (PFM) through self-control (SC). Using SEM-PLS, data from 200 university students (100 economics [FEB] and 100 non-economics [non-FEB]) were analyzed. Results indicate that DFL and SC directly and positively affect PFM, while CL has no direct effect. SC fully mediates CL's effect on PFM. Crucially, a behavioral divergence is revealed: SC acts as a partial mediator for FEB students but a full mediator for non-FEB students. This study enriches behavioral accounting literature by proving that cognitive digital knowledge remains inert unless actively translated through psychological self-control to suppress impulsive consumption.
