Smart Transportation Innovation and Green Transportation Efficiency: Carbon Emission Mediation

Abstract


The urgency of reducing global carbon emissions has led many emerging economies to explore innovation-driven strategies for sustainability. This study investigates the relationship between Smart Mobility Innovation and Green Efficiency in Indonesia, with Carbon Emission Efficiency (CEE) serving as a mediating factor. Drawing upon Green Innovation Theory and Ecological Modernization Theory, the study employs longitudinal data (2019–2023) and applies structural equation modeling to test the proposed relationships. The findings demonstrate that Smart Mobility Innovation significantly enhances Green Efficiency, both directly and indirectly, through improved CEE. Firms that consistently invest in digital and low-emission technologies show greater progress in reducing carbon intensity. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on green innovation by highlighting the central role of CEE in sustainability transitions. The results offer theoretical enrichment and practical recommendations for policymakers and business leaders aiming to promote innovation-driven decarbonization in developing countries.
