Author Guidelines

Strength and Conditioning – Exercise Science Journal (SCESJ)

Thank you for your interest in submitting your manuscript to the Strength and Conditioning – Exercise Science Journal (SCESJ). Please read and follow the guidelines below to ensure your submission meets our standards.

1. Scope and Focus

SCESJ accepts original research and review articles in the following fields:

  • Strength & Conditioning

  • Exercise Science

  • Talent Identification & Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD)

  • Training Periodization

  • Motor Growth & Development

  • Exercise Physiology

  • Sports Fitness and Society

  • Preventive & Rehabilitative Sports Injuries

  • Sports Nutrition and Recovery

  • Sports Coaching Psychology

  • Sports Management

  • Test & Measurement in Sports

  • Biomechanics & Sports Performance Analysis

  • Sports Application and Technology

2. Publication Frequency

SCESJ publishes two issues annually: in May and October.

3. Submission and Review Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted via our Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.

  • All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers.

  • The review process takes approximately 4–6 weeks.

4. Types of Manuscripts

  • Original Research Articles – Up to 6,000 words

  • Review Articles – Up to 7,000 words

  • Short Communications / Technical Notes – Up to 3,000 words

5. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be written in English or Bahasa Indonesia using the following structure:

  • Title: Clear, specific, and no more than 16 words

  • Abstract and Keywords: 150–250 words (in English and Bahasa Indonesia) with 3–5 keywords

  • Introduction: Background, aims, and significance

  • Methods: Study design, subjects, procedures, tools, and data analysis

  • Results: Clear presentation with supporting tables or figures

  • Discussion: Interpretation, comparison with previous studies, limitations

  • Conclusion: Main findings and practical recommendations

  • Acknowledgments (optional)

  • References: Use APA 7th Edition; at least 80% of sources from the last 10 years

6. Formatting Requirements

  • File format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)

  • Paper size: A4

  • Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt

  • Line spacing: 1.5

  • Paragraphs: Justified, first-line indent 1.25 cm

7. Publication Ethics

  • Manuscripts must be original and not under review elsewhere.

  • Ethical clearance is required for studies involving humans or animals.

  • All submissions are checked for plagiarism using dedicated software.

  • SCESJ follows the COPE guidelines for publication ethics.

8. Article Processing Charges (APCs)

There are no submission or publication fees. SCESJ is fully open-access and free of charge for authors and readers.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Authors who publish with SCESJ agree to the following terms:

  1. Copyright remains with the authors.
    Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0). This license allows others to share, use, and adapt the work for any purpose, even commercially, with proper attribution to the original authors and source.

  2. Authors are permitted to share and distribute their work.
    Authors may enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgment of its initial publication in SCESJ.

  3. Authors are encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on personal websites) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work.
