Software reliability and robustness are essential in developing modern applications, especially those handling personal data like mood tracking apps. Without solid software construction principles, such applications are prone to system failures, runtime errors, and poor user experience. This study presents a case study on the development of the desktop application Moodyan, built with Java using Object-Oriented Programming (OOP). The methodology focuses on three key Software Construction techniques: (1) Reuse Engineering through the integration of the JFreeChart library for data visualization; (2) Error & Exception Handling using try-catch blocks and logging to manage failures; and (3) Fault Tolerance via retry mechanisms for database connections to ensure availability. The results show that combining these techniques enhances development efficiency, prevents crashes, and preserves functionality during disruptions. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that a structured construction approach can effectively improve the reliability and maintainability of a software system.
