Dari Pesantren Tradisional ke Agen Transformasi Sosial: Studi Historis Pondok Pesantren Sirnamiskin (1935–2020)

Abstract


Penelitian ini mengkaji transformasi historis dan peran sosial Pondok Pesantren Sirnamiskin di Bandung pada periode 1935–2020. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana pesantren berfungsi sebagai aktor lokal dalam proses transformasi sosial dalam konteks perubahan sejarah. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif historis, penelitian ini memanfaatkan arsip, dokumen kelembagaan, serta wawancara sebagai sumber data, yang dianalisis melalui tahapan heuristik, kritik sumber, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendirian pesantren berakar pada kebutuhan masyarakat serta didukung oleh filantropi berbasis wakaf yang menjamin keberlanjutan institusi. Dalam perkembangannya, Pesantren Sirnamiskin bertransformasi dari lembaga pendidikan tradisional menjadi pusat pendidikan yang dinamis dengan integrasi pendidikan Islam, keterampilan hidup, dan keterlibatan sosial masyarakat. Penelitian ini berargumen bahwa pesantren tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai lembaga pendidikan, tetapi juga sebagai aktor sosial-kultural yang menjembatani nilai keagamaan dan perubahan sosial-ekonomi. Dengan menempatkan pesantren dalam kerangka transformasi sosial dan agensi lokal, penelitian ini berkontribusi pada kajian pendidikan Islam dan peran institusi keagamaan dalam masyarakat modern.

Abstract

This study investigates the historical transformation and social role of the Sirnamiskin Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in Bandung from 1935 to 2020. It aims to examine how pesantren function as local agents of social transformation within changing socio-historical contexts. Employing a qualitative historical approach, the research utilizes archival documents, institutional records, and oral history through interviews, analyzed through heuristic, source criticism, interpretation, and historiographical methods. The findings reveal that the establishment of the pesantren was rooted in community needs and supported by waqf-based philanthropy, which enabled its institutional sustainability. Over time, Sirnamiskin evolved from a traditional religious institution into a dynamic center integrating Islamic education, life skills, and community engagement. The study argues that pesantren operate not only as educational institutions but also as socio-cultural actors that mediate religious values and socio-economic change. By positioning pesantren within the framework of social transformation and local agency, this research contributes to broader debates on Islamic education, community development, and the role of religious institutions in shaping modern societies.
