Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of subjective norm, behavioural control, and self-regulated learning on students' learning motivation enrolled in public vocational high schools (SMK Negeri) specialising in Economics and Business in Bandung City, with attitude serving as a mediating variable. The research employs a causal-descriptive design with a quantitative approach. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to 370 students from three public vocational high schools in Bandung City, specializing in Economics and Business. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4. The findings indicate that improvements in subjective norm, behavioural control, self-regulated learning, and attitude should be prioritised through coordinated efforts by teachers, schools, and the Ministry of Education. One relevant approach involves fostering greater concern and support to enhance students’ awareness of the importance of learning in achieving desired educational outcomes. This study represents one of the first empirical investigations to analyse the influence of subjective norm, behavioural control, and self-regulated learning on learning motivation with attitude as a mediating variable. Overall, the results provide robust empirical evidence of the substantial role these variables play in shaping students’ learning motivation.
