Abstract


The Contextual Approach in general is the casting of conceptual ideas through identification of the surrounding environment, culture, natural conditions, habits of the surrounding community, and available resources, besides that contextual also refers to the revitalization of an existing building into a building with better utilization. Andra Matin is one of the domestic architects who tries to use concepts that can optimize cultural elements in each of his works. Through interviews with Andra Matin regarding his background and architectural works, his architectural style is modern with a rational character using materials that represent efficiency. In developing his designs, Andra Matin explores materiality a lot, including in the existence of developing a modern and clean architectural character. Various materials used are concrete, brick, and wood.
