Abstract


ABSTRACT:

K.A.R Bosscha's house in Pangalengan, West Java, is an example that reflects the combination of European design, climate adaptation, and adaptation to the surrounding environment. K.A.R Bosscha's house has historical value as one of the important buildings during the colonial period. This research aims to examine the philosophical meaning contained in the design of the K.A.R Bosscha House as a representation of the culture and social status of its residents. The research method used is qualitative research method. The results showed that the shape of the gable roof on the K.A.R Bosscha House does not only function as a functional element, but as a symbol that reflects the identity and values of the community in its day. Thus, the philosophical meaning of the roof shape of the K.A.R Bosscha House needs to be understood as part of the architectural heritage that must be preserved.
