ANALYSIS OF NATURAL LIGHTING DISTRIBUTION AND VISUAL COMFORT IN TAHFIDZ CLASSROOMS

Diana Novitasari

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of natural lighting quality in classrooms, which affects students’ visual comfort, especially in Tahfidz classes with intensive reading activities. A common issue is the uneven distribution of light, even when overall illumination appears sufficient. This study aims to analyze the distribution of natural lighting and its relationship with students’ visual comfort. The method used is a quantitative approach through light intensity measurements using a lux meter at multiple points within the classroom, with a measurement height of approximately 84 cm from the floor, supported by observational data of visual conditions. The results show that lighting intensity ranges from 175 lux to 497 lux, with several points not meeting the minimum standard of 350 lux. The lighting distribution is uneven, indicated by significant differences in intensity between the front and back areas of the classroom. Although no glare complaints were reported, the imbalance in light distribution may reduce students’ visual comfort. In conclusion, optimizing the distribution of natural lighting is necessary to create a more comfortable learning environment and support sustained visual activities.
