Abstract
Abstract: This research is based on the low understanding of students' mathematical concepts. The Alternative solution that can be done by applying realistic mathematics education (RME) approach. The purpose of the study is to describe the implementation of learning mathematics lesson content and increased understanding of mathematical concepts of students after applied the RME approach. Participants in this study were IIIC class students who numbered 30 students. The research method used is PTK with Kemmis and Taggart model which is implemented in two cycles with learning materials around the flat wake. Findings on one cycle, less conducive classes, and students had difficulty in changing non-formal to formal mathematics, whereas, in cycle two, classes began to be conducive, and students had been able to transform nonformal mathematics to formal. The results showed that the implementation of the learning cycle I 73.3% increased in cycle II to 100%. The average results of the understanding of mathematical concepts of a cycle I 66 increased in cycle II to 88. Classical clarity in cycle I 63% increase in cycle II to 100%. Thus it can be concluded that the RME approach can improve the understanding of mathematical concepts in elementary school.
