PENERAPAN METODE PQ4R UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MEMBACA PEMAHAMAN SISWA KELAS V SD

Abstract


Low interest in reading elementary school students raises various kinds of problems including student’s difficulty in making questions, answering questions, determining main ideas, rewriting contents of reading text. When learning process occurs in activity of answering questions, students tend to be slow and need repetition in reading texts. Because students incline to master writing symbol without understanding contents of reading. The problem found in fifth grade students of SDN X City of Bandung. Another factor influence reading skill of other students is less concentration in learning, methods used by the teacher still conventional and monotonous. This research aims to describe implementation plan of learning and process of implementing learning by PQ4R method to thematic learning. Moreover, to describe results of improving reading comprehension skills of fifth grade elementary school students after applying PQ4R method. The research implemented as many as two cycles using class action research with spiral research model according to Kemmis Mc. Taggart. The results of this study show an upsurge in students reading comprehension skills. In first cycle students mastery learning was 53% while in the second cycle increased to 89%. Thus, application of PQ4R method can improve reading comprehension skills of fifth grade elementary school students.
