Pengaruh Internal Audit Berbasis ISM Code terhadap Peningkatan Mutu Manajemen Keselamatan Pelayaran

Abstract

The ISM Code-based internal audit functions as an internal evaluation mechanism to assess the extent to which the implementation of safety procedures on board the ship has been in accordance with applicable standards. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the ISM Code Internal Audit on PT SPIL's ships, as well as to find out the obstacles faced in the implementation of the Internal Audit. This research is qualitative with a case study approach; the data collection uses questionnaires and interviews. The population in this study is the entire crew of PT SPIL. The number of respondents involved in this study was 86 people. The results of the study showed that the ISM Code Internal Audit variable showed that the majority of respondents agreed (57.05%) and strongly agreed (38.29%). On the Shipping Safety Management Quality variable, most respondents also stated that they agreed (57.33%) and strongly agreed (33.02%) that the quality of shipping safety management has been maintained and improved along with the implementation of internal audits. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of internal audits based on the ISM Code on ships owned by PT SPIL has generally been carried out in accordance with the procedures set by the company and IMO regulations. The obstacles faced during the internal audit were (a) limited preparation time due to the tight shipping schedule, (b) lack of understanding of some crew members of the ISM Code procedures as a whole, and (c) slow follow-up on audit findings due to the coordination process with the head office.
