Empowering Rural Communities through Optimized Cow Manure Biogas Production in Alamendah Village [Pemberdayaan Masyarakat melalui Optimalisasi Pengolahan dan Kinerja Biogas Kotoran Sapi di Desa Alamendah]
Abstract
Biogas merupakan salah satu solusi alternatif dalam penanganan masalah meningkatnya penggunaan LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) sebagai bahan bakar utama yang tidak dapat diperbaharui, namun sering kali pengelolaan biogas belum optimal sehingga penggunaannya masih terbatas. Salah satu desa yang telah memanfaatkan biogas adalah Desa Alamendah, Kabupaten Bandung, Jawa Barat yang dilakukan oleh komunitas peternak sapi. Pada artikel ini dipaparkan kajian untuk optimalisasi pengolahan, pengelolaan, dan pengujian biogas dari kotoran sapi yang dilaksanakan di desa tersebut. Evaluasi kinerja juga dilakukan untuk mengetahui kesesuaian penggunaan biogas yang telah ada sebagai solusi pengganti penggunaan LPG, meliputi warna nyala api serta waktu yang diperlukan untuk mendidihkan air. Beberapa faktor diketahui dapat mempengaruhi hasil dari biogas seperti kotoran sapi yang dihasilkan, selang penghubung gas yang digunakan, tungku yang dipakai, suhu udara yang ada, dan perbandingan komposisi dari pencampuran kotoran sapi dalam wadah mixer. Hasil evaluasi kinerja biogas menunjukkan warna nyala yang biru serta waktu mendidihkan air yang hampir sama dengan tungku berbahan bakar LPG. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa biogas yang dihasilkan di Desa Alamendah dapat digunakan untuk mengganti LPG sebagai bahan bakar yang ramah lingkungan dengan proses sederhana sehingga dapat mewujudkan energi yang terjangkau, dapat diandalkan, dan berkelanjutan.
Biogas is one of the alternative solutions in dealing with the increasing reliance on non-renewable LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas). However, its production efficiency is still insignificant, which limits its broader utilization. A community of cattle farmers in Alamendah Village, Bandung Regency, West Java, has sustainably processed cow manure into biogas for daily household use. This article describes a study to optimize biogas processing, management and testing from cow manure which was carried out in Alamendah Village. Evaluation was also carried out to determine the feasibility of produced biogas as a substitute for LPG usage. Several factors affecting biogas productions were identified, including the quality of the cow manure, the gas connecting hose, stove design, air temperature, and the composition ratio of cow manure mixing in the container mixer. In addition, combustion tests demonstrated a clean blue flame, and the time consumed for boiling water was comparable to that of LPG. These findings reveal that biogas products from Alamendah Village could substitute LPG as environmental-friendly fuel which is affordable, reliable and sustainable with simple production.
