Teachers’ Professional Development through Workshop on The Integration of AI-based Assessment in Learning [Pengembangan Profesionalisme Guru melalui Workshop Integrasi Asesmen Berbasis Kecerdasan Artifisial dalam Pembelajaran]
Abstract
The development of artificial intelligence (AI) provides significant changes in the educational field, including opportunities to conduct more efficient, objective, and meaningful learning assessments. However, many teachers still face challenges in assessing students’ responses of open-ended assessment. This international community service is a teacher professional development program that aims to improve teachers’ literacy and skills in implementing AI-based assessments through a collaborative workshop with Seoul National University, South Korea. The workshop involved 119 participants from various fields, with the majority being science teachers. The workshop included lecturing about the assessment, demonstration, and hands-on practice using Scoring Assistant using Artificial Intelligence (SAAI) to grade students’ essay responses. The workshop evaluation showed positive results in terms of usefulness, time management, quality of resource persons, and workshop implementation. All participants expressed their willingness to implement AI-based assessment in schools. However, the main challenges identified by teachers included limited technological competence, infrastructure, and the need for further training. Overall, this workshop is successfully increasing teachers’ readiness in using AI for learning assessment while strengthening international academic collaboration in the development of innovative assessment in Indonesia.
