Empowering Youth as Global Citizens; Can Blended Learning in Civic Education Foster Creativity?

Dede Iswandi

Abstract

This study examines the role of blended civic education courses using SPADA Indonesia in fostering creativity among young global citizens, targeting a sample of 150 students enrolled in a civic education course at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. The purpose of this research is to determine whether the integration of face-to-face and online learning environments can enhance students' creative skills, a crucial competency for active global citizenship in the 21st century. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through surveys, creativity assessments, and interviews to gauge students' creative development throughout the course. The results reveal a significant improvement in students' creativity, particularly in areas of innovative thinking, problem-solving, and self-expression. Analysis suggests that the flexibility, interactivity, and diverse resources provided by the blended learning model contribute to these gains, offering a more dynamic learning experience than traditional formats. In conclusion, the findings underscore the potential of blended civic education to support creative growth, highlighting its importance as an educational strategy for preparing globally minded, creative youth.
