Strategies for Improving Digital Citizenship Competencies of Civic Education Teachers through Distance Learning: A Case Study of Universitas Terbuka Students

Riza - Alrakhman

Abstract

This study explores strategies for improving digital citizenship competencies among Civic Education teachers through distance learning, specifically focusing on students from the Pancasila and Civic Education program at Universitas Terbuka. The research involved 80 students, aiming to assess the effectiveness of various digital learning strategies in enhancing their understanding and application of digital citizenship principles. With the increasing integration of technology in education, it is crucial for future educators to develop the necessary skills to navigate and teach within the digital landscape. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews to gather both quantitative and qualitative data on the students' experiences with digital learning platforms and the impact of these platforms on their civic education competencies. The findings indicate that distance learning strategies, such as interactive online modules, virtual discussions, and the use of digital tools for collaborative projects, significantly enhance students' awareness and practical application of digital citizenship in educational contexts. This research highlights the need for comprehensive digital training in teacher education programs and provides valuable insights into effective distance learning practices that can be implemented to strengthen digital citizenship competencies among Civic Education teachers.
