Abstract

In doing physical activities, elementary school students tend to enjoy various types of games. Game activities consists of various movement skills and games skills that must be mastered by students in order to obtain success during the games. The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation and contribution of fundamental movement skills toward games skills using small-sided handball games in elementary students. The method used was descriptive quantitative method. The subjects of the study were fourty 3rd grade students. The instrument used to measure FMS was by Test of Gross Motor Development - Second Edition (TGMD-2) consisting of locomotor and object control skills. While games skills consisting of games involvement (GI) and Games performance (GP) were measured using the observation format of Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI) by selecting three main components there are  decision making component, skill execution and support on invasion game activity format. The results indicated that the FMS level was significantly correlated with games skills at a moderate levels (r = 0.47 and 0.43 for each GI and GP). Fundamental movement skills contributed 21.8% to GI and 18.6% contributed to GP. The results supported the hypothesis that fundamental movement skills have a significant correlation that is at a moderate level with games skills.
