Improving Target Throwing Skills in Rounders Through the Use of Archery Target Board Media: A Classroom Action Research Among Grade IV Students

Abstract


Physical education plays an important role in developing students’ motor skills, physical fitness, and character. However, many elementary students still show low proficiency in fundamental movement skills, especially throwing accuracy in small-ball games such as rounders. This condition was identified among Grade IV students at MIN 1 Lombok Tengah, where students demonstrated limited throwing accuracy and low learning enthusiasm.

This study aimed to improve students’ target-throwing skills through the use of an archery target board as a modified learning medium. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles involving 40 students. Each cycle included planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through performance tests, observation sheets, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively using percentages and mean scores.

The findings revealed a substantial improvement in students’ throwing skills. Learning mastery increased from 32.5% in the pre-cycle to 50% in Cycle I and reached 90% in Cycle II. The modified learning media also increased students’ engagement and participation during learning activities.

In conclusion, the archery target board effectively improved students’ throwing skills in rounders and can serve as an innovative instructional strategy in physical education learning.
