Ethical Guidelines
Journal of Automotive Engineering Education: ATIKANOTO (JAEE) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher involved in the publication process.
JAEE is published by the Study Programme of Automotive Engineering Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, and applies internal ethical guidelines to ensure transparency, fairness, and quality in scholarly publishing.
Duties of Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to JAEE are required to adhere to the following ethical principles:
Originality and Plagiarism
- Manuscripts must be original works and have not been published or submitted elsewhere.
- All sources must be properly cited.
- Plagiarism screening is conducted using Turnitin, with a maximum similarity index of 20%.
- Limited self-plagiarism is permitted (up to 30% from the authors’ own previous works), provided that:
- the reused material is properly cited, the manuscript contains substantial novelty, the work does not constitute duplicate publication.
- Self-plagiarism involving duplication of abstracts, conclusions, or main findings is not permitted.
Data Accuracy and Integrity
- Authors must ensure that data presented in the manuscript are accurate, reliable, and honestly reported.
- Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data is strictly prohibited.
Multiple or Redundant Publication
- Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
- Redundant or duplicate publication is unacceptable.
Authorship
- Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study.
- All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript prior to submission.
Conflict of Interest
- Authors are encouraged to disclose any potential conflict of interest that could influence the research or interpretation of results.
- If no conflict exists, authors should state: “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
Duties of Editors
- Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the journal and ensuring a fair editorial process.
- Editors evaluate manuscripts based on academic merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
- Editorial decisions are made independently, without discrimination based on authors’ race, gender, institutional affiliation, or nationality.
- Editors must maintain confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts.
- Editors must not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research.
- Editors take appropriate action when ethical issues or misconduct are suspected.
Duties of Reviewers
- Reviewers play a critical role in maintaining the quality of publications in JAEE.
- Reviews must be conducted objectively and constructively.
- Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential documents.
- Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
- Reviewers must declare any conflict of interest and decline review if necessary. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate.
JAEE applies an open review system, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are known to each other.
Peer Review Process
- All manuscripts submitted to JAEE undergo an initial editorial screening.
- Eligible manuscripts are reviewed by two independent reviewers.
- Editorial decisions include: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.
- The review process aims to be completed within the stated review timeline.
Ethical Oversight
Retraction Policy
JAEE may retract a published article if:
- Plagiarism or self-plagiarism beyond acceptable limits is identified,
- data fabrication, falsification, or unethical research practices are proven,
- serious errors invalidate the results or conclusions.
Retracted articles will remain accessible with a clear retraction notice.
Correction Policy
Corrections may be issued for:
- minor errors that do not affect the overall conclusions,
- errors in author names, affiliations, or references.
Withdrawal Policy
- Manuscripts may be withdrawn before acceptance with editorial approval.
- Withdrawal after acceptance requires a formal written request and valid justification.
Copyright and Licensing
Copyright of published articles is managed by the journal as the publisher.
JAEE is published by Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).
All articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license.
Privacy Statement
The names and email addresses entered in the journal system will be used exclusively for journal purposes and will not be shared with third parties
