Abstract

Preserving cultural identity in early childhood education remains a critical challenge amidst the digital transformation in Indonesia. This research aimed to address the urgent need for culturally rooted pedagogical tools by developing an ethnoparenting learning media based on the Banten local culture to improve the implementation of project-based learning strategies and students’ learning interest. The research used the ADDIE development model to integrate Ecological Systems Theory with digital media creation. It collected data from 30 subjects using questionnaires and an observation rubric for feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness, with quantitative analysis. Results from early childhood education students demonstrated that the ethnoparenting model is highly feasible, with expert validation reaching 95% in average. Practicality also indicated good criteria (>94%) for practical in use in individual, small-group, and large-group trials. Effectiveness testing through pre-test and post-test analysis revealed significant improvements in the implementation of project-based learning strategies (t = -19.406, p < 0.05) and in students’ learning interest (t = -25.881, p < 0.05). The findings conclude that narrating local cultural content, such as Bantenese maps, folklore, and traditional food, on digital platforms effectively fosters cultural attachment, thereby improving the implementation of project-based learning strategies and students’ interest in learning. This research implies that ethnoparenting serves as a strategic intervention for preserving cultural identity within the constructivist learning model, such as project-based learning.
