TEACHER LEADERSHIP STRATEGIES BASED ON A CHRISTIAN EDUCATION PERSPECTIVE IN CHARACTER FORMATION OF STUDENTS AT XYZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SURABAYA

Abstract


Character formation is one of the major efforts undertaken to shape a civilized  
generation. In the educational process, efforts to enhance character formation  
continue to be pursued. However, in reality, various character-related problems  
still exist in students’ lives. The character issues referred to include bullying  
cases, the emergence of various criminal acts among students, a low level of  
respect and empathy toward teachers and parents, as well as issues related to  
discipline and responsibility. An educational institution in Surabaya has never  
experienced the aforementioned character problems. Students at XYZ elementary  
school Surabaya tend to possess character traits that align with the expected  
standards. This is based on the goals and values instilled by XYZ elementary  
school Surabaya a in character formation, which is committed to producing  
graduates who have strong character and understand their life purpose. This  
research was conducted to explore teacher leadership strategies based on the  
perspective of Christian education in shaping students’ character at XYZ  
elementary school Surabaya. This study employed a qualitative research approach  
using the case study method. Data collection techniques included interviews,  
observation, and document study. Data analysis was carried out through data  
reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the  
teacher leadership strategies based on the perspective of Christian education in  
shaping students’ character at XYZ elementary school Surabaya include teachers’  
understanding of students, praying for students, role modeling, collaboration with  
other teachers, collaboration with parents, and implementing the six learning  
processes promoted by XYZ elementary school Surabaya.
