Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of relaxation techniques in reducing the level of anxiety experienced by male adolescents aged 12 to 14 years. This study used a quasi-experimental method with one group pretest – posttest design model. The Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) - Child Version (Birmaher, et al., 1997) was used to measure overall anxiety level and an anxiety thermometer made by researchers was used to evaluate anxiety level after each session. In total, there were 8 males with relatively high levels of anxiety based on the SCARED (≥ 30 points) who participate for 7 sessions. Each session was conducted for 90 minutes. The results indicated that there was a decrease in anxiety levels after the relaxation training program on 7 out of 8 participants.
