THE INFLUENCE OF PEDAGOGICAL EXPERIENCE IN THE MBKM PROGRAM ON STUDENTS’ INTEREST IN PURSUING A CAREER AS A TEACHER OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
Abstract
This study is motivated by the relatively low interest of Mechanical Engineering Education students in pursuing teaching careers despite participating in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). This study aims to analyze the effect of pedagogical experience in the MBKM program on students’ interest in becoming machining teachers. The research employed an ex post facto design with a quantitative approach. The population consisted of 2022 cohort students, with a purposive sample of 72 respondents who had participated in the MBKM program. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for content validity and reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha). Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results showed that pedagogical experience had a positive and significant effect on career interest, with a regression equation of Y = -20.758 + 0.825X, a t-value of 6.077, and a significance level of p < 0.05. The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.345, indicating that pedagogical experience contributed 34.5% to students’ career interest. It can be concluded that pedagogical experience plays a significant role in shaping students’ interest in becoming vocational teachers, although other factors also contribute substantially.
