Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the demonstration method on the practical learning outcomes of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) among vocational high school students. This research employed a quantitative approach with an associative/correlational design involving a sample of 65 students from the Welding Engineering skill competency program, selected through total sampling. The demonstration method variable was measured using a student perception questionnaire, while SMAW practical learning outcomes were measured using practical scores based on a welding performance assessment rubric. The findings revealed that the demonstration method has a positive and significant relationship with SMAW practical learning outcomes. This is evidenced by regression analysis results showing that the application of the demonstration method contributes to improving students' welding practical competency achievement. Simple linear regression analysis indicated that the demonstration method has a positive and significant effect on SMAW practical learning outcomes, with the regression equation Y = −2.670 + 1.055X (t = 33.968; p < 0.001). The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.948) indicates that 94.8% of the variation in SMAW practical learning outcomes is explained by the demonstration method. The findings also revealed that the demonstration method helps students better understand practical procedures and encourages more effective engagement in SMAW welding practice, thereby contributing to improved learning outcomes. These findings suggest that the better the implementation of the demonstration method, the higher the students' SMAW welding practical learning outcomes.
