Implementasi Buku Nonteks Berjenjang Level B3: Strategi Meningkatkan Minat dan Kemampuan Literasi Anak Usia 8-10 Tahun

Abstract


This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Level B3 Graded Non-Textbook (ages 8–10) in improving elementary school students’ reading and writing literacy in Jombang Regency, Indonesia. The background of this research lies in the low literacy achievement of Indonesian students and the need for reading materials appropriate to their developmental stages. A mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design was employed. Quantitative data were collected through pretests and posttests in four elementary schools, followed by qualitative data through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The findings revealed a significant improvement in literacy skills. Average reading scores increased from 9.75 to 12.54 at SDN Blimbing (+28.6%), 10.50 to 14.29 at SDN Bugasurkedaleman 2 (+36.1%), 7.84 to 10.58 at SDN Dukuhpundong 1 (+34.9%), and 7.43 to 14.71 at SDN Kayangan 1 (+98.0%). A GLM test confirmed a strong effect of time (F(1,67) = 440.183; p < 0.001; η² = 0.868). Writing literacy also improved significantly, for instance, from 8.29 to 11.00 at SDN Kayangan 1 (p < 0.001). Qualitative findings reinforced these results, highlighting that successful implementation was influenced by teacher competence, student engagement, and institutional support. It is concluded that the Level B3 Graded Non-Textbook is effective in enhancing elementary students’ literacy and serves as a contextual learning resource supporting Indonesia’s National Literacy Movement.
