Digital Transformation in Education: Challenges and Opportunities in the Age of AI
Abstract
Digital transformation has emerged as a global imperative in education, particularly with the accelerating integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology to critically examine the opportunities and challenges associated with digital technology adoption in educational settings. Drawing upon peer-reviewed publications indexed in the Scopus database from 2020 to 2024, the review reveals that AI holds considerable promise for enhancing personalized learning, optimizing institutional operations, and expanding educational access. Moreover, AI-driven data analytics support the development of adaptive curricula tailored to individual learner needs, thereby improving relevance and instructional effectiveness. However, the digital transformation of education faces persistent challenges, including the digital divide, limited technological proficiency among educators, and ethical concerns related to data privacy and algorithmic bias. This study underscores the need for inclusive and sustainable strategies for AI integration in education, offering evidence-based insights to inform future policy, pedagogical innovation, and scholarly inquiry.
