Abstract

Food literacy refers to the ability to understand, manage, and apply knowledge related to the selection, preparation, and consumption of healthy and sustainable food. One factor that may influence food literacy levels is gender. This study aims to examine differences in food literacy levels between male and female students enrolled in culinary programs at vocational high schools. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 74 students selected based on data eligibility, using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to identify the relationship between gender and food literacy categories. The findings indicate that both male and female students demonstrate good levels of food literacy across all domains. These results suggest that food literacy is relatively balanced across genders and is more influenced by learning experiences, structured curricula, and hands-on practice. Therefore, culinary education plays a key role in developing students’ competencies and highlights the importance of practice-based and inclusive learning.
