Exploring Arabic Language Proficiency Measurement Standards Based on ‎Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Skill Levels

Abstract


The interest and motivation of Arabic language learners are not limited to academic achievement but also to a professional need in careers or involvement in international forums. Therefore, an Arabic language proficiency assessment scale using the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) standard is essential. This study aims to describe the Arabic language proficiency assessment scale based on ILR standards. This study used four databases, Sinta, Science Direct, and Taylor and Francis. The results of this research describe the assessment scale based on general and specific ILR standards according to Arabic language proficiency. The findings in this study are: (1) Application of the ILR Scale: The ILR scale is effective in measuring Arabic language proficiency, particularly in reading, from beginner to native-like proficiency and (2) Curriculum Implications: Integrating the ILR scale into curricula at Islamic boarding schools and universities enhances assessment accuracy and learning tailored to students' proficiency levels.
