The existence of Sunda Wiwitan among Sundanese people as a local belief in Indonesia

Rani Trianti

Abstract

This study aims to determine the existence of Sundanese Wiwitan as a local belief in Indonesia, the history of the concept and the belief of Sundanese Wiwitan, and the phenomenon of discrimination encountered by the adherents. The method used in this research is a survey method using a qualitative approach. The results show that there is poor recognition of the Sundanese Wiwitan belief. This is very upsetting, considering that the Sundanese Wiwitan belief is a typical Sundanese ethnic belief that has existed for a long time before major religions such as Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism reached Indonesia. This research is intended to provide the public with insight so the public is more familiar with the Sundanese Wiwitan belief. Until now, the adherents are still trying to obtain recognition from either the government or the community
