Mimbar Sekolah Dasar was established in 2014 as a national-level journal publishing articles in the Indonesian language. During the 2014–2016 period, MSD published two issues per year (April and October editions). In response to the increasing number of submissions and to improve article management quality, starting in 2017, MSD increased its publication frequency to three issues per year (April, August, and December editions).
To expand scientific dissemination and attract authors from around the world, MSD transitioned into an international journal using English as the publication language beginning with the December 2018 edition. In Volume 5, Issue 3, MSD also introduced changes to the journal cover design and article layout.
Starting in 2024, MSD further increased its publication frequency to four issues per year, published in March, June, September, and December, to accommodate a larger number of high-quality manuscripts and enhance the timeliness of scholarly communication.
